The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has held a reception in honour of the chairman, Professor Bem Angwe and other members of the newly inaugurated Governing Board.

The occasion which had the fanfare befitting the eminent status of the chairman and other members of the Governing Board took place on Tuesday, 31st August, 2021, at Chelsa Hotel, in Abuja, shortly after the inauguration ceremony.

In his remark at the event, Professor Angwe declared that NABTEB has a great role to play towards reducing the level of insecurity in the country.

According to Professor Angwe, “All over the world today, you find that technical education and vocational training is the central tool that ensures the acquisition of skills, particularly the young population in any given country.

“It is our belief that when the youth are meaningfully engaged, when the youth are meaning fully employed, it takes away from them idleness; when youth are idle, they become involved in all forms of criminalities or vices in the society.”

The chairman of the NABTEB Governing Board also said, “When we make NABTEB more popular for it to take its rightful place in our educational system, many of our youths will become empowered, many of our youths will become self-employed, and when our youths get so engaged, then they will no longer be wiling tools for those who will want to use them to participate in acts of banditry, acts of kidnapping and such other terrorist activities.”

Earlier, in her welcome address, the Registrar/Chief Executive, NABTEB, Professor Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe welcomed and congratulated the chairman, Professor Bem Angwe and other distinguished members of the Governing Board for what she termed their well-deserved appointment, saying NABTEB was indeed fortunate to have them.

The NABTEB Registrar/Chief Executive thanked President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu and the Minister of State for Education, Sir Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba, for their deep insight in selecting and appointing high calibre of professionals as members of Governing Board of NABTEB.

Professor Isiugo-Abanihe said from all indications the chairman and members of the NABTEB Governing Board will add value to the delivery of mandate of NABTEB, thereby facilitating greater development of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in Nigeria.

She solicited the Governing Board’s cooperation with the NABTEB’s management “as it is certain that with a smooth synergic relationship, the fortunes of the Board will, no doubt, experience a remarkable increase.”
