The Benin Monarch, His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, has expressed his willingness to work with the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) in skills acquisition, certification and empowerment.
Oba Ewuare II spoke when the Registrar/Chief Executive, NABTEB, Professor Ifeoma M. Isiugo-Abanihe and other members of the Board’s management team paid him a courtesy visit in his palace recently in Benin City, the Edo state capital.
The monarch said the collaboration with NABTEB will help to create a necessary training for the youth in the state with a view to enabling them to be self-sustaining and useful to themselves and the society.
According to the Oba of Benin, training and certification of youths in live skills would also help to deal with restiveness in the society and enhance the growth and development of Nigeria.
Oba Ewuare II informed the NABTEB Registrar/Chief Executive that the Benin Palace was considering the setting up of mini-industrial estates in the seven local government areas in Edo South senatorial district of the state.
“We are very enlightened now by your well organised presentation. We thank you for educating us the Royal Family and Chiefs. It will go a long way to deal with the matters of youth restiveness”, the Monarch told the NABTEB Chief Executive.
“You find that most degree holders came out without appropriate opportunities waiting for them. But at this level, many youths can go for training and then you issue certificate. We are thinking of setting up mini-industrial estates in the seven local government of Edo South”, the Oba of Benin added.
He thanked the NABTEB Registrar for her kind remarks about his coronation and for the congratulatory message which the Board under her leadership had earlier sent to him, saying “We will continue to work with you”.
Professor Isiugo-Abanihe had notified that Benin monarch that NABTEB certificates are designed to make vocational training and skill acquisition more attractive to the teeming unemployed youth and promote wealth creation and economic self-reliance.
She pointed out that NABTEB had in the past engaged in the certification of some members of the Amnesty Programme who were products of training by some oil companies.
“In a similar vein, some patriotic Nigerians, including paramount traditional rulers have embarked on the training of jobless youths and are sponsoring vocational training of roadside artisans who are being certified by NABTEB with the Modular Trade Certificate.
“Your Royal Majesty, we commend the giant strides you have taken through your visionary leadership to discourage all forms of youth restiveness and promote useful engagement right from the inception of your dynamic administration.
“We, at the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), believe that one way of actualising Your Majesty’s burning desire to turn around the fortunes of hapless youths is to collaborate with us in the quest for wealth creation, employment generation, economic self-reliance and rapid socio-economic development”, Professor Isiugo-Abanihe further said.
